I see this as a growing trend from various publishers. I am extremely glad to see that games for windows live is dying, it's taken long enough and it's a garbage system that needed to be put out of its misery. If you combine this with the news that Microsoft announced the closing of it's games purchases on windows marketplace a little while back (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/15/games-for-windows-live-marketplace-closing-august-22-client-sti/) It looks like this service itself may end up completely dead sooner, rather than later.

The only downside is that older titles may end up getting screwed over because the dev's most likely will not spend any extra time or effort in porting over to steamworks.

EDIT:

Someone posted this today as well:

I'm not sure which servers they're referrring to, but most people were jumping to the conclusion that GFWL was going to be shut down July 1st 2014. My bet is since I have not seen any new games mentioning using GFWL, that the service is basically just going to be in maintenance mode until it is completely shut down next year.

You asked for it (at least judging from the hundreds of comments on this UbiBlog post when the game was first revealed – and the thousands of comments on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere). And now Ubisoft is delivering. Today, Ubisoft confirmed that along with the previously announced PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, Tom Clancy’s The Division will be available on PC as well.

Nice.

New Blizzard MOBA that they're developing. Some points I noticed about the game which are different from more traditional mobas:

No Items (at least that I could see)

Levels are global across the team

Towers have ammunition (it regens slowly when not firing)

Neutral monster camps can be killed and then revive and join your minions as mercenaries

Each map has at least 1 major gimmick: Cursed Hollow allows you to curse the enemy team so that no towers shoot, Blackheart's Bay allows you to pay Blackheart to shoot the enemies base

There are multiple "fountains" on the map (one each lane I think) which can provide a full heal, but they have a cooldown of about 1 minute

You can bluepill, you can also summon a mount for faster movement out of combat

This game looks very very different. I wonder if blizzard is a large enough company to push it's way into the market, especially considering how saturated it is.

Here's some gameplay:
