Alright, I should have posted much earlier than this, but its true that I have accepted a new IT position out of state. I'll be embarking on Thursday of this coming week. So, I hope to grab a last meal with you all. Thanks to kuhla, I believe everyone has the details. Hope to see you all there!

I confirmed that the snowboard rack fits on the Tahoe (holds up to 4 boards). With a little ingenuity we might be able to squeeze all 7 of us along with the 3 shortest snowboards inside and the 4 longest boards on the rack to and from the Bear Mount / Snow Summit.
-
Hey I offered, so now I'll stick to my word and request the Friday off. I'll test out the snowboard rack tomorrow.
-
I am leaning to heading up Friday afternoon. But if you would need a larger SUV (like a Tahoe), then I would consider taking all of Friday off. I'll let you guys spend day one learning on the bunny slopes then we can all hit the black diamonds on day two As for sleeping arrangements, I would be just fine on the floor. I will bring a sleeping pad and sleeping bag.

I am interested. My dad's Chevy Tahoe is available (2WD). We have chains. The Tahoe fits 6 comfortably but can squeeze 8. I can probably borrow a snowboard rack which fits 4 snowboards, although the price to rent in Fullerton would be roughly the same as the price to rent in Big Bear. I'm flexible with regards to the dates, although I would prefer to be back by Sunday evening.

Tobacco in terms of how it relates to other drug policies
ben the jew replied to kuhla's topic in Serious Discussions
In regards to the legalization of various substances, I find that my views have changed quite a bit from what they were when I was younger. The D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program that those of us who grew up in southern California are familiar with really drilled into our brains the fact that drugs are bad and will ruin your life. "Just say no" was the slogan. The images I can recall most vividly are those of people with cancer of various kinds. Some lung cancer, some mouth cancer... the images were gross and I think we got the message: "If you do drugs, you'll pay for it..." On the one hand, I am grateful that I received information about the negative consequences that can stem from certain substances. I think more than anything I learned that some things are just bad for the human body--and its probably a good idea to stay away from them. On the other hand, I am not a proponent of the government meddling in matters of personal health and well-being. This is something that I feel more strongly about as I get older. I do believe that every person has the inherent right to do with their body whatever they want so long as it does not directly limit or affect someone else's to do the same. Don't make choices for people--allow people to make their own choices and realize their effects. So is it hypocritical to legalize one substance and not another? Maybe. But I think we have to take a step back to ascertain the true reasons that some substances are band and others legalized. I think one reason why tobacco is legalized while others (like cannabis) are banned (for the most part), is because it was one of the early cash crops that brought money to America. Tobacco was in high demand in the 1700s. And anything that is in high demand can produce large profits. I am not saying that this is the only reason that tobacco is legalized while others are not. But I think it is one reason. Perhaps tobacco was more easily monetized than cannabis? I believe money, lobbyists, and politics play a major, often overlooked role in this debate. -

Yeah it is going to keep coming up over and over. Well I do want a smooth gaming experience. Would I say that I'm into serious gaming? I don't know... perhaps. My laptop charger flat out went up in smoke this evening so I'm pissed and itching to move on. So I see two options at this point: Lenovo Y40-80 for $650 PLUS a nice monitor that I will also eventually use with a desktop. OR Go pretty much all out (for me a at least) and get the ASUS ROG GL551 for $1,050. But then I'm going way over budget and the screen is only 15.4". Thoughts please? I've gotta decide and I need the experts' opinions -

14.0" FHD LED AntiGlare (1920x1080) However, I would likely purchase a nice monitor to use most of the time. -

What's you guys' opinion on this? (14" display) Edit: I figure that I am going eventually have a laptop AND a desktop. I like the mobility too much to go with only a desktop. So I might as well get a decent laptop if I can get a good deal on it. Then I'll purchase the desktop when the time comes. -

My GPU requirements at this point are probably not very high. I mean, I'm currently using this MCP with an ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 with 256MB. I think just about any upgrade is going to seem amazing to me at this point. If I am completely honest, I really just want to play CS:GO for now. My GPU requirement will definitely jump if Star Citizen ever goes V1.0 -

Kuhla, thanks for the build suggestion. I was in the process of examining all of those parts when I saw Malaphax's post. That seems like a pretty good deal! It might suffice for now until I'm a little more situated and have more space for a desktop. All your thoughts on that laptop?
