kuhla
source #1 - http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89802 Was reading air forces monthly today on the train, and this caught my eye. Its made by the bell x-works but started as a project by an Israeli company, they now are partners on the project. Its capable of hovering and can carry 11 men and is designed with urban warfare and law enforcement in mind, and with no external rotors could hover right next to buildings - swat/sf assaulting a hi-rise building via a normally almost inaccesible window anyone? The version photographed on exhibition has two vulcan cannons Got a brief on the concept when they came through Mother Rucker. Lot of promise with it, but the gatlin guns were a promotional addition vs a real concept I think. The best part is that it can tuck up next to the building, both to get folks out or to put them in. http://www.urbanaero.com/YY5Q4489%20copy.jpg http://www.urbanaero.com/IMG_0532%20copy.jpg *goes off to google it*
Malaphax
my only problems with this are a) that thing is a bit too open aired to provide enough protection for my liking how loud is it (probably not that quiet, not stealth) c) doesn't exactly look incredibly sturdy, i'm assuming it's light weight stuff so one RPG or well placed grenade and that thing goes down... yea... otherwise it looks like an interesting concept. kuhla
b ) how loud is it (probably not that quiet, not stealth) Just addressing this one aspect: I don't think stealth is being pushed as a feature for this helicoptor replacement in urban settings. I think they were more looking to sell it based on it's increased flexability and manuverability between buildings and push where you don't have to worry constantly about the helicopter blades snagging on stuff. This would allow it to get to floor 12 (example) and let troops/officers in through the window as opposed to helicoper bringing guys to the top of the building or having to assault from the bottom.
