Malaphax
Microsoft X019 happened today. I'll be posting a few trailers I found interesting. Here's a big reddit thread that covers all trailers and announcements. https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/dwd6d0/x019_rgames_discussion_megathread/ Project X-Cloud sounds pretty solid, it's coming to PC in 2020 and they even support other blutooth controllers including the sony dual shock 4. I was already rather skeptical of Google's Stadia and it looks like Microsoft is willing to be a loss leader to capture the majority of the games streaming market. I'm somewhat curious if Stadia will even survive past 2 years at this point.
Malaphax
Stadia launch is a complete dumpster fire. If you pre-ordered (sometimes day 1) you might not have received your $130 controller and chromecast ultra yet, but people ordering today are getting shipping estimates for 1-2 days out. Even if you received the physical hardware you most likely have no received an activation code - these were promised to be processed in order of people who pre-purchased - people currently ordering are reportedly receiving codes ahead of pre-purchasers. Even if you received the activation code - you need to download the stadia app to input the code and activate this account, it must be a gmail account (gsuite does not work) and this code must be input on a list of approved phones - ie google pixel devices To recap, a bunch of people prepurchased a $130 kit of hardware which is currently locked behind a code that has not been properly sent out to the majority of prepurchasers and even if you get the code it needs to be activated on a pixel phone, which some people don't have. You can't even activate it to stream games to chrome webbrowser or chromcast without using the google stadia app - which again only works on pixel devices. I'm not a google fanboy for several reasons, but their complete ineptitude when it comes to any hardware is genuinely impressive. The stadia subreddit is currently a bunch of memes and people complaining about how busted this launch is. I'm going to echo my above post and make a bold prediction that stadia won't last until 2022 - let's see if I'm right.

Malaphax
Final mention of Google stadia, it adds ~60ms of input delay on everything. Metro exodus especially had poor performance. Worse yet, certain games are not running at max settings, in fact Destiny is running at a lower setting than even the xbox one X. To make matters EVEN WORSE is that the "4k" isn't true 4k, it's 1080p that's being upscaled, but since the upscaling is being done server side, the bandwidth usage is way higher than 1080p without really improving visual fidelity. Some games do run full 4k, but Destiny 2 is 1080p (and medium graphics), Red Dead 2 is 1440p 30fps (and runs like shit), tomb raider is supposedly full 4k. I've already said that Stadia looks like trash from nearly every angle, and these reviews are hammering home just how bad this product launch is. Worse yet, Google has a nasty track record of killing off products rather than investing money into fixing them. I do believe something like project x cloud and nvidia's current offerings will end up killing stadia and Google will let it happen, further punishing early adopters. Malaphax
Seems like Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries copied a significant portion of Harebrained Schemes Battletech overarching systems. There's a planetary map with different planets and conflict zones, there's bidding for salvage/cbills, etc. I think that's a reasonable thing to do considering Piranha games provided updated mech models for the Battletech game. Overall the verdict is wait for a sale (it's also currently exclusive to epic games store. The main complaints are: poor AI, terrible voice acting and plenty of bugs. This is supposed to be one of the other major VR releases people were anticipating. Capcom is just steadily remaking all their old stuff. Malaphax
Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC - Kotaku has been reporting on these rumors for quite some time. I suspect this might be due to death stranding coming to PC (same engine) making the port a little easier. https://kotaku.com/sources-horizon-zero-dawn-is-coming-to-pc-1841043569 Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed until September 7th - They say it's feature complete but they want to polish the game. I think it also has to do with release windows. https://twitter.com/CDPROJEKTRED/status/1217861009446182912

April is still 2 full months away. Do they really need that much more "polish"? ...or are they way behind?
Malaphax
There are additional rumors that some of the other playstation exclusives will end up slowly making their way to PC. Currently because Microsoft is unifying their xbox/pc releases, it's leaving Playstation in a tough situation - do they double down on exclusives to try and sell more hardware? Or do they instead go for more timed exclusives and pick up some people that have no intention of buying a playstation? They might test with a few semi-major titles like Horizon Zero Dawn before they decide to sell God of War, Uncharted or Last of Us on PC. As far as cyberpunk 2077 is concerned, I'm not surprised they chose to delay their release - they did something similar with Witcher 3, which saw at least two delays. I also suspect that the main story is "content complete" but some of the side missions and bug fixing is going to take some serious time. There's also the need to optimize for 4 different console SKUs and PC - which if the Witcher 3 downgrade fiasco is anything to go off of, I suspect they'll push a little harder to make sure there aren't any obvious visual downgrades from their in game trailers. Honestly I'm more concerned that Gamestop might file for bankruptcy before the game releases - that would blow for anyone that had a pre-order with them. Malaphax
This is a very similar list but he swaps out TemTem (pokemon style mmo) and Phantasy Star Online 2 (which is old but never made it outside of Japan). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RPwLyEB5iw Recently Smilegate announced they're not going to localize Lost Ark to EU/NA in the coming year - so you have to scratch that one off. As I mentioned before, aside from Secret World and I guess Core Punk, it would be korean/chinese mmo ports, which I have almost zero faith in. The korean/chinese market is absolutely full of pay2win mechanics and have transitioned hard into mobile games with super predatory gacha style systems. Secret World sounds like it was practically reworked in the last 3-6 months and that's somewhat worrying. The mmo market is basically dead right now, which is somewhat annoying because as Kuhla mentioned, games with long term goals provide a great sense of progression. Malaphax
GeForce Now is open to everyone. This is the game streaming provided by Nvidia, it's $5/month and you need to provide the games. There is a free option but it limits you to 1 hour sessions and has a wait-list. https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2020/02/04/geforce-now-pc-gaming/
Malaphax
Some Doom content is trickling out as we creep towards launch. Here's an overview of the new upgrade system: I'm not embedding this next video because it's the first 10 minutes of the game, and I'd rather not spoil anyone's experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ6BnaE0Inc

Malaphax
EDIT - here's another Wolcen gameplay overview from someone who's playing the pre-release beta. Outriders doesn't have too much in the way of gameplay just yet, but it's a looter shooter (looks like a destiny clone). There's a few additional gameplay clips in this video here:
kuhla
Quote Wolcen Looks kinda cool. *checks official website* Oh it's on Steam. Ooof. It's early access with no clear release date. https://store.steampowered.com/app/424370/Wolcen_Lords_of_Mayhem/ Quote Outriders As usual the cinematic is a lot more intense than the actual gameplay. I'm getting more than a little Destiny clone vibes coming from that. Not a bad thing to copy but still.
Malaphax
35 minutes ago, kuhla said: Looks kinda cool. *checks official website* Oh it's on Steam. Ooof. It's early access with no clear release date. https://store.steampowered.com/app/424370/Wolcen_Lords_of_Mayhem/ No, it was early access until the launch date - today... 2/13/2020 - try clicking that link again. Sidenote: I tend to avoid early-access on principle, I don't generally replay games so I want a finished game when I play through it. However, there have been a few really good examples of early access work that come to mind are Deep Rock Galactic - https://store.steampowered.com/app/548430/Deep_Rock_Galactic/ Hades (now on steam) - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1145360/Hades/ Risk of Rain 2 - https://store.steampowered.com/app/632360/Risk_of_Rain_2/ All of which have seen substantial updates and are genuinely worth playing right now - also most of them share roguelike elements / procedural maps - which helps. I've considered easing my personal rule against early access for some of these games, especially since the developers have proven themselves, but I haven't made the leap quite yet.
