kuhla
A bunch of factoids regarding last night's conversations: Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-130J_Super_Hercules Capacity: :* 92 passengers (128 for C-130J-30) or 64 airborne troops (92 for C-130J-30) or 6 pallets (8 pallets for C-130J-30) or 74 litter patients with 2 medical personnel (97 litters for C-130J-30) 2–3 Humvees, or 1 LAV III(with turret removed) or an M113 armored personnel carrier Payload: 42,000 lb (19,050 kg) ; for C-130J-30: 44,000 lb/ 19,958 kg No MBTs. Even if you disassembled the entire abrams, it would be too heavy. French Tank Destroyer - AMX 10 RC - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMX_10_RC Weight 15 tonnes (17 short tons; 15 long tons) Main armament 105 mm BK MECA (F2) L/48 (38 rounds) (Vo 800 m/s) Not that heavy and with modern ammunition it should be able to take out just about anything. French armed recon vehicle - ERC 90 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ERC_90_Sagaie Weight 8.3 tonnes Main armament 90 mm Cannon For a combat vehicle, weighs very little, and with 90mm it has got bite. Easily transportable by C-130. I actually wonder if you could put that on a C-27J Spartan MOAB on a B-2 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_Ordnance_Penetrator The Air Force took delivery of 20 bombs, designed to be delivered by the B-2 bomber, in September 2011. In February 2012, Congress approved $81.6 million to further develop and improve the weapon.Yeah, I guess so. Where are B-2s flying out of? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-2_Spirit#Operational_history During the Iraq War (Operation Iraqi Freedom), B-2s operated from Diego Garcia and an undisclosed "forward operating location". Other sorties in Iraq have launched from Whiteman AFB.[6] This resulted in missions lasting over 30 hours and one mission of over 50 hours. "Forward operating locations" have been previously designated as Andersen Air Force Base in Guam and RAF Fairford in the UK, where new climate controlled hangars have been constructed. B-2s have conducted 27 sorties from Whiteman AFB and 22 sorties from a forward operating location, releasing more than 1.5 million pounds of munitions,[6] including 583 JDAM "smart bombs" in 2003.[71]Not quite USA but still far away from the front lines. Malaphax
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GBU-43/B_Mass..._Air_Blast_bomb I'd like to point out you were linking to a MOP bunker buster instead of the MOAB. The MOAB is 30ft long vs the 20.5 for the MOP. The tonnage is less however, also considering only 15 were built, it was more a rhetorical question. Jedi2155
In case you forgot, I immediately noticed my mistake of aircraft designations and corrected it to the C17/C5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_C-17_Globemaster_III - 1 Abrams http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_C-5_Galaxy - 2 Abrams Although this is new to me: Air launched ICBM's. Probably was a starting point for them to develop the ALCM's.
