Here's some interesting news about some of the possible future displays coming down the line.

Below we bring you some news from AU Optronics about some of their forthcoming panels. Surely of most interest is a new 27" panel (M270DAN02.3) currently in development which will be based on AUO's AHVA panel technology, equivalent to LG.Display's IPS and with very similar performance characteristics. This is a 27" panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness, sRGB gamut and 178/178 viewing angles. Nothing special you might think - wrong! This will be the first IPS-type panel to natively support 144Hz refresh rate, something buyers have been crying out for for a long time! 144Hz AHVA and 2560 x 1440 resolution, we can't wait!

Now there is a problem currently (especially with the Asus Swift) regarding 1440p at 144hz, namely that it isn't within the displayport spec. You can push 120hz just fine, but 144hz is slightly outside of the current displayport standard. That's why this is the second piece of interesting news.

The new standard just released today, so theoretically a manufacturer could produce a 2560x1440 @ 144hz g-sync monitor with an IPS* panel that uses the new 1.3 displayport standard. So now we wait...

So my requirements for a new monitor are as follows:

1. > 100 Hz refresh rate

2. IPS

3. 21:9

4. High resolution

It seems that all these technologies seem to be counter to each other still....my dream setup is the following:
336H0x1440 resolution @ 144 Hz

H-IPS

Glossy Screey

I'd pay big bucks for that type of monitor...

I want a monitor like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005624&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&PageSize=10&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&IsFeedbackTab=true&RandomID=560587110522910420140926052621

Except I want it with the bump in resolution from 1080 to 1440p and higher refresh rate. Of course the bezel on that is huge and would be nicer to be bigger. I can totally live with a dual display system like that rather than a triple monitor setup.

Getting really tired of waiting for a proper g-sync display and want to try 144hz in any form but so much compromise....

The premium on 27", without g-sync, is hard to swallow but having a slightly smaller 24" (compared to current 16:10 24") is an annoying detail.

Kuhla mentioned this particular product from BenQ:

24" 144hz 1080p for $650.

Personally I find this incredibly underwhelming, it's a smaller display with the same technology for a $50 premium.

Although we have Newegg pricing it at $600, I wonder if they'll wait a week and then push the price back up to the msrp listed on BenQ's website.

At the same price as the Acer, the BenQ has a better feature set and a better track record (for gaming monitors). That being said, even with g-sync, $600 is still hard to swallow for 24" 1080p.

Looks like the Asus 27" is the best bet at $800. I like its thin bezel look. Although still not a fan of TN (I'm running 27/24 IPS setup right now). In reality I wouldn't pay extra for G-Sync since screen tearing doesn't bother me. I always leave V-Sync off for everything anyways.

The BenQ bezel design does look a lot like my U2410 though.....(dotted buttons, plus USB hub on the left side)

If your frame rate is high enough in most games you play, there are people who enjoy strobing technology over g-sync (who have both so they can A B test). I encourage you to look into those but that still leaves only TN tech since it's the only thing fast enough. Buying a monitor based purely on size or aspect ratio right now kind of irks me when I see some interesting tech being pushed.

Which monitor do you have right now? Are you interested in something like the Overlord Tempest X270OC? http://overlordcomputer.com/collections/27-monitors which for all intents and purposes is a more "local" sourced Catleap 2B with a better stand.

damn i dint realized this stuff is that expensive.

was interested @ 27" 144 not sure if i can ever go back to 24 inches

SInce everything is 16:9 now, and I'm on a 24" 16:10, I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm really hesitant to consider any 24" 16:9 because I think it will feel smaller but, at least with g-sync, it's adding a rather large premium.

Why is G-Sync so interesting to you guys?

Anytime I see tearing it really bothers me but I still leave v-sync off most of the time because I find the 60fps-30fps-60fps transition can be pretty jarring. Adaptive v-sync kind of works but it's very much a band-aid. G-sync solves both problems by having zero tearing while allowing the fps to be completely variable (provided it's over 40 and under 144). I think it's kind of an exciting piece of tech. It's one of the few inovations in a very slow piece of the consumer tech world (displays).

just about ~300 dollar more ish just for g snyc. and im talking about 1080p screen with tn panel -_- expensive ehh

impressive tech tho. screen tearing doesn't bother me. but then again i never play on 144hz
