I don't know much about keyboard design but good controllers will have some hysteresis built in to compensate for this kind of thing.

Any mechanical switch has the capacity to bounce and is easily observed on an o-scope. It would look something like this:

switch_bounce.jpg

If they had really good switches (such as the one above) the bounce can be relatively short. The one above bounces for 1 ms before it is fully "triggered".

Hysteresis is not commonly used to counter bouncing because it usually occurs over the entire range of the signal. The most common design is just to wait it out such as the 20ms time that is mentioned in original source. I'm not surprised at all that they used 20 ms, since when I did my FPGA programming I typically introduced a 100 ms delay but the push button switches I used weren't great ~60 ms bouncing I think. Not sure if my memory is great either since I did most of this programming back in 2007.

So far it's pretty good. It's not nearly as loud as a mechanical (which is the primary reason why I bought it), but it still feels pretty solid to type on. The 10 key is pretty good. I run it with the lights turned off, because I'm not a douche, and aside from the different colored key caps on wasd and arrow keys it just looks kind of big and black and clunky, not incredibly obvious that it's a gaming keyboard. I haven't really had a chance to use the media keys yet because I need to work out how I want to handle audio first. I'll also be using the macro keys more effectively in a while, but for now I'll just be using them when launching certain programs.

gotcha, i mean i wasnt interested. i just never heard cause they new and the design is simple. and adreN endorse it lol. i always wonder if they actually like it. like he used to use zowie mouse.

The main complaint right now is that, even though it has one of the best sensors, they are using generic everything else and selling it at full price: http://www.amazon.com/FinalMouse-2015/dp/B00MX8QSLW/

I would like one of these for work but i don't think any if these gaming keyboards are nondescript enough to bring in.

I currently use a steelseries 6gv2 and am looking at getting a 6gv2 red soon.

Any suggestions for alternatives?

What are you looking for? Just something mechanical? What type of Cherry MX keys? The one you linked are MX Black are linear. MX Reds are also linear. Do you want tactile feedback (MX Brown)?. Since it's for work, I'm assuming you don't want one with audible feedback (MX Blue or Green).

There are some other simple looking Cherry MX keyboards from Rosewill. Just switch the backlight off: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=Rosewill%2BApollo%2BMechanical%2BKeyboard%2B&N=8000&isNodeId=1

Cooler Master also has a few on the simple looking side: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=8000&IsNodeId=1&Description=Cooler%2BMaster%2BMechanical%2BKeyboard&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=30

O-ring mod may also be something worth considering if noise is a possible issue even with the linear switches: http://www.overclock.net/t/1222969/double-o-ring-mod-for-mx-switches

I ended up getting a rosewill, but I specifically wanted (and paid more) for a version without any sort of backlighting at all. http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Mechanical-Keyboard-RK-9000V2-BR/dp/B00S5E4LX0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1424395220&sr=8-2&keywords=rosewill+9000

Apparently their old 9000 series is sold out everywhere. I had to get their newer version the 9000v2. As far as I can tell it is identical with a different cable connector. I ended up getting cherry mx-browns and I like it a good deal more than the blacks I have currently. The actuation feedback is not overwhelming but gives a nice feel. I bottom out constantly when typing on my blacks so I don't know how I feel about getting a keyboard with reds.

I would like to try a keyboard with blues before I buy one.\

edit: forgot to mention that I heavily contemplated the cm storm quickfire XT but in the end the lettering on the keys bothered me too much. I just wanted something simple and nondescript. it was surprising how hard and expensive that was to find.

I took my old steelseries 6gv2 home and I'm surprised how heavy I find the mx blacks to be now. I guess I find the linear switches hard to use since you're either bottoming out, which doesn't feel good to me, or you have to guess if you actuated the key or not.

thinking about selling this keyboard and getting a mx blue rosewill...

My mouse is slowing starting to have issues with the scroll wheel. This is apparently pretty common among corsair mice after a certain number of years, and considering I bought mine in 2011... I guess it's about that time.

I've been looking at 2 direct replacements:

Basic M65 - This is a direct replacement, almost no changes.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816009

RGB M65 - This is a slight variant. 2 changes, it added lights and the shittier logo as well as moved the dpi clutch (look at a side view the "sniper button" has been moved further back towards the center)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816033

The alternatives:

Asus Strix Claw - Looks good, has 3 side buttons (I might use one as a dpi clutch or something else). Also it's on Kuhla's list of good sensors.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826785088

Asus Rog Gladius - The other asus mouse. It's got some weird quirks and uses a different sensor, but still seems like a decent alternative.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=asus+rog+gladius&N=-1&isNodeId=1

So far that's what I've looked at, I know there's also plenty of offerings from other brands, but I've already vetoed Razer. I briefly looked over some Logitech mice but nothing caught my eye. I briefly checked some Roccat and Steelseries mice but nothing looked interesting.

The issue is that Corsair is only announcing a non-gaming keyboard using these switches. I also wonder how much this will cut down on noise when you bottom out a key press. I would also love to see a comparison to an o-ring modded keyboard.

If they begin offering these switches in some of their other models or launch some new models I might be interested, but until then the only interesting part of this announcement is the 6 month exclusivity deal that Corsair managed to acquire.

So Razer decided to resurrect the once popular Diamondback but Razer being Razer.... all sorts of strange decisions.... probably bad ones...

official site - http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-diamondback

  • The did away with the rubber strips on the side that the original had which were very nice for grip.
  • Added crazy over-the-top (imo) lighting system which is probably just added weight in the end. It claims to weigh only 89g which would be on the lighter side but I'll believe it when I see it.
  • Specs look like it is going to use the PTE (philips twin eye) sensor which has a long history of issues even though it's technically very advanced instead of going with something less exciting but more track-record proven like the PMW3988 or PMW3310.
  • The are still bundling their Synapse software they have been using lately which is garbage (requires online activation to use, takes resources, etc.).
