Season 2 "tentative" changes coming to PTR

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/4xum52/developer_update_upcoming_season_2_changes/d6ill6y

It looks like they're modeling the ranked system off of Starcraft 2 (or League of Legends). There will be tiers of Bronze - Grandmaster, ranging from 1-5,000 Once you reach a tier you cannot fall below that tier even if you no longer meet the point minimum for that tier. Your rewards are based upon the highest tier you reach (this is exactly how season 1 was, you are rewarded for highest rank reached not your current rank). They also added ranked decay for top players and they've fixed the sudden death system by using the time bank ruleset instead of coinflip.

It sounds like if both team run out of time and cannot capture the first point it results in a tie which awards 5 points (half the points of a win).

I have a feeling we'll see another round of changes between season 2 and 3. It seems like the developers are iterating different designs quickly, which is good.

The most critical change I saw was they allow only a 500 point difference between players in a party. They do have restrictions like this in League of Legends as well and I'm not surprised to see this happening. I just hope it doesn't affect our group all that much.

I feel like you left out the biggest proposed changed:

If you win or lose, you'll be going up/down whole numbers.

Often a win gets 2-3 "pips" while a loss is often 4+ pips (almost a whole level, I think there are 6 "pips"?). I'm actually not sure if this change will make me average higher or lower....

I believe there are 5 total pips.

I didn't mention it because I have a feeling that you will still see the same behavior with the new system just like in the old one. I bet you anything that you'll have loses where you lose 3-5 points and then you'll win and get a single point. The difference is that they've basically removed decimals from their system. There's no way someone would be possible to rise up to rank 4,000+ if they only received 1 point for every single win.

It's the same thing with ranked weapons. They're now going to cost 3,000 competitive points, and each win will give you 10 and a tie will give you 5. They didn't change anything they just removed decimals from the equation.

New Map. Some are speculating it's a reverse payload/assault map, where you push the battering ram to open a room that needs to be captured. I'm skeptical on that point but the new map looks pretty awesome.

EDIT:

Also heroes of the storm is adding Zarya (they already have tracer). Funny enough is that her skins in Heroes of the storm are arguably better than her skins in overwatch...

PTR Patchnotes:

https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/blog/20243886

Mercy's getting another buff, Zenyatta is getting changed/nerfed. Lucio nerfed. D.Va small nerf, Genji MANY NERFS. Ultimates will count down much faster 0.25s vs 1s and they gave some quality of life fixes for roadhog and mei.

All the new overwatch emotes (sit/laugh) D.Va has a legendary emote where she streams a game on twitch. It looks amazing.

EDIT:
Character page with abilities:

So she does have a full stealth with speed boost, a teleport and can disable abilities including ults (with some cast time, unless she uses her own ult). She looks... strong.

Also hacking health kits so they can't be used by enemies is going to be rage inducing. I hope they realize that's over the top and unnecessary.

TL;DR:

1) Rank Decay - Players above 3000 must complete seven games per week in order to avoid decay. They can either do them once a day, or seven in one session to reach their minimum requirements.
2) Ranks below 500 - Players with SR below 500 will no longer have their rank displayed.
3) Top 500 - Only players in the Top 500 at the end of the season will receive Top 500 end-of-season rewards.
4) CP Respawns - If the attackers outnumber the defenders on a contested control point, defenders will get an increased respawn timer (up to a max value) until the attackers capture the point, or the defenders regain control.

But seriously, read the post.

Unlike season 3 I will play my placement matches this season.....

I agree that some of the abilities are just variations of other characters abilities but there are parts I'm still interested in.

The CC immunity ability looks fairly interesting, and if you time it right you can respond to major ultimates like Rein's hammer down or mei's ice field. That seems very strong for a non-ultimate ability. On the flipside it doesn't have the damage soak from a zarya bubble, but none of the heavy cc abilities do a ton of damage so that's probably not a big issue. I'm also interested to see if using that ability takes away the movement speed slow when she fires her weapon, if it does that might be interesting.

The mini-graviton looks fairly overpowered, I would imagine that you can do some nasty stuff with environmental kills on certain maps.

The shield looks meh.

The supercharger will be a nasty buff to deal with defenders, on the flipsize I think the fact it can be destroyed makes it fairly balanced. Although I'm sure people are going to find awkward places to put it where you can buff an entire team holding a corner - like eichenwald's last push.

Here's a thread with screenshots of her skins:

Also here's someone on the PTR showing off some of her abilities, it looks like she does high damage for a tank.

I played the newest co-op mode last night just to test it out. It's fairly fun and doesn't take too long. I think torbjorn is a little bit busted though, between his personal damage output and the turret I have a feeling you'll always top out your team's damage numbers.

I played on the easiest difficulty and it was a cakewalk, I'm sure the harder difficulties are actually rough.

They're doing another cross promotion thing with Heroes of the Storm. Play 5 games each week and get various rewards.

Remember kids, cross selling is only a dirty word when Wells Fargo does it.

This is coinciding with Heroes of the Storm 2.0 launch which looks fairly extensive. I will most likely be giving this a shot this time around. I'll start up another thread for that.
