kuhla
Watched a few episodes. That trailer is actually pretty accurate. Various thoughts: They go hard on the veteran issues. I get that it's part of this story but I could do with less of it. I really have to wonder at what point we reach the saturation point of "according to media all veterans are screwed up and dangerous". Some of the episodes are pretty slow. Bodycount feels about the same as other marvel netflix shows but the "definitiveness" of that bodycount is higher. Doesn't feel like as much of the antihero as I expected. I actually feel like he was more antihero in Daredevil. I appreciate a lot of the chamber checking but I am always worried they are about to start walking down the "gunporn" route. Most attractive department of homeland agent ever? I feel it's OK but I expected more especially because we have already seen this Punisher. Malaphax
I have issues with the veteran parts because we see: 1 successful veteran who owns a PMC, an infowars watching NRA dude, a guy who has severe PTSD and mental issues. That's about as hollywood as it gets in terms of the depictions - only the guy leading the sessions is normal. I understand that therapy is self selecting, but still - that actually leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm rather annoyed by the wife flashbacks, they've overdone it and I'm only 3 episodes in. I find it amusing that the homeland agent is trying their best to be military. Small credit to the fact that she essentially admits to being a diversity hire. I agree that the episodes centering around the punisher in daredevil S2 felt higher quality.
kuhla
Watching the new season and Jon Bernthal is slowly joining the club of actors where "I think of comic character X so I think of actor Y". Speaking of the season itself, I'm worried where they are going with this. I expect Punisher to be like Daredevil, spending most of it's time a little more grounded in a reality I recognize. Not Iron Fist bad but still bad. It is especially frustrating because there were moments when it seemed like they were playing with a good idea but then threw it away. Various spoilery thoughts: Spoiler The girlfriends fighting constantly. Is this supposed to be harley quinn? Emotional Frank, Robot Frank, Emotional Frank, Robot Frank. Can we pick one archetype please? It's comical how quickly everyone recovers from injuries. Couldn't even walk this morning? Jogging in the afternoon. Everything Valhalla was idiotic. Masks? You go shopping at the psycho ptsd vet supermarket? How did you find all these guys in DAYS?! The evil religious zealots again. We have done this trope before 1000x. Oh yes. Billy looking real gruesome. A couple of lines on his face around the edges. Yep. Terrible. I don't even want to type more. What was that ending? Some street level gang shit massacre? Huh? That's all Frank does now? That doesn't really seem to be worth his time.
