My New Car: Tesla Model 3

I think Brand + Price Segment.

For example:

A luxury brand releases a $20k car. Its a luxury car.

A normal car (Tesla) does not have a single car under $40k, its a luxury brand by segment, but is considered not to be a luxury car in terms of build quality/interior styling.

Is car from Luxury Brand?

You're a luxury car.

ElseIs cheapest car (under brand) > $40k?

Your car brand is a luxury brand.

Else

Everything else

End Is

I consider Volvo a luxury brand. Do other people not? When I think Volvo, I think at least BMW 3 series pricing+

Does Peugeot even make cars in the USA?

It really also depends on the market too. Buick is luxury brand in China for example.

Do you consider Tesla a luxury brand? Even when they release the Model 3 at $35k? I mean its close that price already with incentives. Thats about the price of the cheapest Volvo.

I think most "existing" luxury car buyers would agree with you. Tesla's quality does not match up with expectations for a typical luxury car buyer. Yet people are still buying into it.

So I never mentioned in this thread that I ended up changing the configuration literally last minute, I did not buy the car I specified in my original post. I switched the Performance trim on August 10th for Free Unlimited Supercharging.

  • Model 3 Performance $64000
  • Metallic Blue $1000
  • Enhanced Autopilot $5000 ($6000 later)
  • Full Self Driving $3000 (or $5000 later)
  • Destination Fee $1000

About 2 days prior to my original delivery date which was DELAYED, I ended adding the following and bought the Demo Model (which had 226 miles on it).

  • White Seats + $1500
  • Performance Upgrade Package + $5000
    • 20" Sports Wheels +  Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires
    • Performance Red Brakes (Brembo)
    • Carbon Fiber Spoiler
    • Aluminum Pedals
  • Total: $80.5k before taxes/registration
    • $7038.75 taxes/registration (used my Fullerton address for 7.75%, would've been 9.25% 8246.25 otherwise)
    • Total before Discounts: $87,538.75
      • $1600 Demo discount
      • $7500 Tax Credit
      • $2500 CVRP rebate
      • $450 SCE rebate
      • $Total after discounts: 75,488.75
        • I can also give up my Free Unlimited Supercharging for $5,000
          • $Total after discounts and -FUSC: $70,488.75

Loving the performance though......this is a funny guy who did the same swap after buying it.

Really loving the new rims, the tire efficiency is still TBD as my driving habits haven't been able to give it some consistent performance.

Despite having a set of free referral wheels from Tesla incoming, due to their unreliable estimates I decided to buy new 18" rims to replace my 20s while I wait for the mystical set of forged referral wheels.

I chose a TSportline 18" rims because I wanted the ability to select Tesla's 18" MXM4 Primacy All Season tires for efficiency, ride comfort, and acoustic foam. Ended up paying $2600 with local pickup but should be able to sell my old 20" rims + tires for ~$2000 so it won't be a huge net cost. Here's the final look:

I ended up doing the swap myself since I plan on swapping a set of sports rims/tires to my new dailies as desired. Ended up buying the following equipment mostly from Habor Freight:

I was originally thinking I could connect my impact drill to the deep socket but I was wildly wrong on that assumption due to 1) not having the correct adapters for a 1/4" chuck to a 1/2" bit. 2) my tiny 1/4" impact drill doesn't have the necessary torque to actually undo the lug nuts (usually you want a drill with 400 ft-lbs of torque at least). My little drill probably could do maybe 100 foot lbs (1200 in-lbs) at most.

Forgot to buy a breaker bar as well so I had to borrow my neighbor's infiniti spare tire wrench to get the lug nuts off. Was such a PITA to get all the lug nuts off. Also since my tires are so flush to the car it was kinda difficult to actually torque the necessary 129 ft-lbs on the nuts when putting it back on. I was successful though.

Ended up buying the following for future work:
