In April 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics becomes one of the world's worst man-made catastrophes.

This series is incredibly well done, but it's also genuine nightmare fuel.  This docudrama certainly embellishes some aspects, but the fact that so much of this show is based in reality is truly terrifying.  It's one of the best suspenseful and unnerving series I've seen so far.  As a note, I'm glad they decided to just go with British accents and some very limited Russian audio instead of having the actors try Russian accents - it feels much better.

I've only seen episodes 1 and 2, but the only thing that got me was in E2, was where the scientists started throwing numbers with the possible explosion and I felt it was incredibly overblown literally. I don't know if what they mentioned was actual reality but AFAIK, megatons of nuclear blast seemed incredibly unlikely to me and gives a false narrative on the bomb potential of a nuclear reactor.

Thanks for that video link I hadn't seen it. Upon looking for more sources, it seems I was not alone at calling those numbers "BS"

Ah, the writer admits the mistake, because he simply wanted it to be "big". It was a reasonable goof but one that dramatically harms the image of nuclear power, but it does overstate the magnitude of the danger when they threatened the neighboring city of Minsk with the explosion.
