Malaphax Posted February 10, 2022 Report Posted February 10, 2022 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13668894/ Quote Bounty hunter Boba Fett & mercenary Fennec Shand navigate the underworld when they return to Tatooine to claim Jabba the Hutt's old turf. Let me start off by saying, this series is fucking trash. Also, fuck robert rodriguez. Honestly just watch episode 5 & 6, the pre-episode recap is enough, sit through episode 7 if you can. Avoid the rest. The non-spoilers version is that this is poorly written, terribly directed pile of garbage that will only galvanize people into wanting more seasons of the Mandalorian and less of whatever the hell this series was. The first 4 episodes are hot garbage, episode 5-6 are really good, and arguably an entirely different show, episode 7 goes back to dumpster fire. Coincidentally, robert rodriguez was the director for episode 1, 3 and 7 all of which were complete shite. To make matters worse, due to material covered in this show, you almost have to recommend viewing it (or at least some of it) to be caught up with the Mandalorian. That type of required crossover is certainly expected in some of the MCU, but I dislike that they chose to do it here. As much as I appreciate that they brought back Temuera Morrison to play Boba Fett, he's too goddamn old (61) for this role, worse yet, they keep having him take his helmet off and seemed averse to using a body double for the stunts. His helmetless action scenes looked awful. This is especially weird considering they heavily utilize body doubles on the Mandalorian - Pedro Pascal is basically doing voiceover. Spoiler Episode 5 wasn't just a fantastic episode but one of the best pieces of star wars content that's been released in the last decade. I want to give tremendous credit to Bryce Dallas Howard's direction, because the episode genuinely feels like it was made by an entirely different team of people, much higher quality, and she even managed to get a scene with 3 people wearing helmets to convey more emotion than the first 4 episodes of this show. The episode works so well as an almost standalone Mandalorian episode complete with a "bounty hunt / problem" of the week, and just enough overall plot to push everything forward. Truly superb. Episode 6 was clearly the Dave Filoni episode, way too many cameos and nods to characters he brought into the universe. It's still a fantastic episode purely because every single person who wished to see post ROTJ Luke in all his glory got their wish. The deepfake tech got much better, and they were smart enough to cut away from it speaking to avoid too much uncanny valley, the voice felt a little robotic but workable as long as they don't rely on it for too much - huge improvement over the Mandalorian season 2 finale. While I absolutely think this episode leans very hard on fanservice, it was a dramatically better directed episode than the other live action Filioni episodes we've had so far. I was glad to see Cad Bane make his debut in live action, I'm curious to see if they'll bring him back after episode 7. He seemed wasted as a villain on this show. Also all the blue people in star wars are badasses, Cad Bane, Admiral Thrawn, and of course... Max Reebo. Quote
kuhla Posted February 12, 2022 Report Posted February 12, 2022 I'm not really in the mood to write a paragraph for this but I will say that this show as repeatedly disappointed me and I would not recommend it to anyone. Quote
Jedi2155 Posted September 13, 2022 Report Posted September 13, 2022 Finally finished this show a few weeks ago because watching through the dredge that was Eps. 1 to 4 really tired me out at release. Ep 5,6 was definitely the star of series. Quote
