The storyline is succinct and self contained, and aside from certain issues with children behaving like adults, the series does a good job. I picked this up off of a top anime of 2016 list on crunchyroll and it does deserve a high rating. I don't think it should win (and I don't think joker game even belongs on the list) but it's worth the watch. Sidenote: Re: Zero has a very similar premise involving time travel, but it goes much darker with many more "failstates." Personally I think Re: Zero is the anime of the year, and they do a great job of making an anime out of a video game experience (the feeling of playing a game rather than being based on any games).
