Hiking

I'm mainly directing this at Tino.

You have casually mentioned hiking of different kinds in chat a couple of times.

You serious about this?

Have you done it before?

If you are trying to organize something I may be down to participate but I would need to know some more details. How long in terms of time or distance? How far away?

There are trails to hike in fairly easy driving distance in our area:

I'm afraid of setting of false expectations at this point so I'm going to be very direct.

A 45min calm stroll on a flat path with breaks is not my idea of a good time. Even with friends.

I enjoy being in nature and that is part of the reason I have enjoyed mountain biking which involves moving through nature at speed. Hiking is not something I have really done before but for me to be interested it would need to involve a longer period of time, some sweating, some elevated breathing and possibly even leave my feet a little sore at the end.

i dint quiet like easy trail kind of boring.

i wanna do a little climbing and rocky terrains. soo peters canyon is prob a pass.

should we do it on the weekend ?

This weekend? I'm not sure yet if I am available this weekend. I will have to get back to you

We can start talking about it.

I could only do this on a Saturday.

Probably would want to start in the morning or maybe midday but I do think later would be a good idea.

What trail were you thinking of? Eaton Canyon like you linked earlier?

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Current+Location/34.17812,-118.09664?ref=trail-action-menu-directions

45 minute drive

3.5 miles and comments mentioning this is kids friendly trail

People in the comments mentioning reservations? EDIT: https://parks.lacounty.gov/eatonreservations/

  1. What do we think about possibly planning something tentatively on Apr 3?
  2. Eaton is starting to sound a little to casual. So if we look for something else...
    • Assuming we are moving ~3 mph (based on a few quick articles I found), a 6 mile hike is 2 hours of walking. Add maybe three 10 min breaks and it's 2.5 hours total. Add some driving time and now the entire trip is about 4 hours.
    • What about something like this? https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/bailey-canyon-trail-to-jones-peak
      • about 6 miles total
      • 30-45 min drive
      • elevation gain, definitely not flat
    • Something about the same length, but probably easier with less elevation gain - https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/north-bane-ridge-trail-to-sidewinder-loop
      • Chino Hills State Park apparently has a number of hiking trails.
    • I saw some people talking about Lower Monroe Trail and Truck Trail but also a lot of warnings about this being heavily used by MTBers and I think that is a real concern. Because I have been one of those MTBers on monroe.

1. I'll be in Texas April 3rd. If we're going to do something it'll be either this weekend or might not be able to find time for a while.

2. There's actually a fairly huff and puff trail by my old place that is reasonably difficult and gives you a nice view of the nearby area:

Also happy to do the Chino hills one.
