I've had my eye on this game for a while, now that it's actually scheduled for release I'll probably pick it up.

Kuhla and I own this game.... supposedly...

Another solid humble bundle.

And wildstar may be heading F2P. I put some decent stock in this rumor, the financials from ncsoft's last earnings call showed it performing abysmally.

The new Star Wars: Battlefront game will have a trailer come out later today. In the meantime here are some impressions from media about what they were shown.

It sounds like there are no space battles (currently), and the basic battlefield elements still exits such as squads, weapon attachments etc.

The hero mode is still in from previous games, which means 1 player can control an overpowered hero like Darth Vader or Boba Fett.

The player count appears to be 40, and at least one game mode was called "Walker Assault" and involved an AT-AT.

You can switch between first and third person at any time.

There will be a dlc release of the map Jakku, the desert planet from the movie/trailers, and it will be released before the movie's release.

I haven't heard much about the various timelines you can play in (prequels vs standard trilogy) but so far it looks like the standard trilogy and some dlc from between episode 6 and 7. We'll see if the prequels make a showing, I have a feeling they will because some of the most popular maps in previous games were from the prequels.

I'll try to update this post when the trailer from the game is released later today.

EDIT: Here's the Trailer

.....

Koster's idea had players start with an additional character slot locked to the Jedi class. These Jedi would start out as "weak as a kitten," and.....

....

(read the rest at the source since it's just too much to copy paste here)

That idea. I love it. If you grind really hard on this special alt you could get a taste for *palpatine voice* unlimited power but you are going to eventually get noticed and then you are going to die. For good.

I'm not sure if I trust treyarch enough to pull off something compelling/different. I saw wall running and fancy tech, but generally all these trailers just show stuff from the singleplayer and not the multiplayer. I do feel that any game with a futuristic setting has substantially more possibilities to explore with new gameplay elements, so hopefully this game finds a niche besides some crazy sounding guns and the ability to superjump/dash.

Cheating in multiplayer games isn't big or clever, but people still think they can successfully get away with it. That's a problem for the folks at Valve, who are constantly trying to ensure that Steam is a nice place to play. It's one of the reasons that the company has now revealed that it'll hand the power to police users straight to the developers behind each game on the service. Now, rather than Valve staff racing to deal with each incident, the teams that made the title can rule on what they consider to be fair and unfair practices.

......

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Seems like a system asking to be abused. Of course it could be that few devs even participate in doing their own bans and it goes a largely unused feature. We will see.

Valve as a general rule is trying to divest their broad powers over steam to the community like greenlight and the steam workshop. This trend has both positive's and negatives to it, but when you read up on the internet you tend to see more of the negative issues that crop up.

While I understand their logic, the unfortunate fact is that they need some tighter controls in place and they desperately need to hire more customer service reps to handle how big they've become. Sadly I've heard valve's hiring process is convoluted and their management can be a bit toothless.

This probably deserves it's own post. Steam is now offering refunds on games/dlc.

The major criteria is that you have 14 days to request a refund and cannot have played more than 2 hours.

This is long overdue, but I'm glad to see some steps being taken in regards to their customer service offerings.

So dota 2 is going to get a massive update. It's rather interesting, mostly because dota 2 is such a better made game than league of legends, but I don't think it will ever reach the same popularity.

I'm always super impressed with the quality level the dota has been able to keep up, everything from their client to spectator features. I've seen more than a few threads of people just begging for Riot to straight up copy all the features from dota 2, and frankly I'm one of those people.
