This Volkswagen Scirocco has more aggressive, sports car-style dimensions than the GTI, though. Compare them side by side and the Scirocco is nearly 2 inches longer, 2 inches wider and 3 inches lower, despite riding on the same 101.5-inch wheelbase.

It might turn out to be faster than the GTI, but not by much. The Scirocco will offer four different engines under the hood: three direct-injection inline-4s that burn gas, plus a TDI diesel. The three gas engines make 120, 158 and 197 horsepower respectively, while the turbodiesel serves up 236 pound-feet of torque.

All four engines run through the GTI's standard six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, but the 158-hp engine will offer an optional seven-speed DSG setup. Details on the suspension setup are sparse, but the Scirocco will offer "adaptive chassis control," a driver-adjustable setup that coordinates the damping control with the electro-mechanical steering.

adaptive chassis control, which i think its pretty cool. they starting to use this system on entry lvl cars now instead of super cars only.

i just like the idea of having dynamic setting for you driving needs.

its like having multiple cars. so you don't stuck with stiff dampers/suspensions the whole time.

the new b8 A4 supposed to have one.

but of course sadly:

Editors Note: The new Scirocco is *NOT* going to be sold in the U.S. at this time. VWoA feels the new Scirocco is too similar to the GTI in form and doesn't make sense to bring over. While we think the new Scirocco looks better than the IROC concept, it still isn't what a proper Scirocco should look like. Volkswagen had a beautiful opportunity to build a great looking coupe that would be unique in the lineup and instead has built a hotter GTI. As much as we like the way this thing looks on its own, we're disappointed the "new" Scirocco didn't turn out like it could have.

What's Edmunds' take?

Would it be nice to have the Scirocco in the U.S.? Certainly. Would it be worth paying $30K for? Not really. ? Ed Hellwig, Lead Senior Editor, Inside Line

DETROIT ? Volkswagen confirmed Wednesday that it has no immediate plans to market its new Scirocco in the U.S., blaming the dollar's drop against the euro.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=125058

on the bright side

We've heard an S3 Sportback has been confirmed for Europe, which could lead the way for an American S3 from what we've heard in the past. Though the up-until-now 3-door only S3 wasn't fit for US sale, the 5-door most certainly is. Also, the car's 2.0T engine is now open game for US sale thanks to the federalization of the TTS.

Even still, we'd heard that internally there is some debate on the merit of bringing the car. Though its got its supporters, it also has its detractors. We raised the question yesterday in a roundtable with Audi AG boss Rupert Stadler and Audi of America marketing chief Scott Keogh. Both executives said the car is still being considered.

So what does this mean? Though some sources have told us the S3 is out of play, Stadler's and Keogh's responses make us more positive. If you would seriously consider buying the car, let Audi know that it needs to come.

No thanks... can't drive it in the rain... probably won't be street legal, not to mention the fact that if you hit anyone your so fucked it's incredible. Give me a real car please (also note that because it only has 300hp and weighs in at a whopping 700kg... you weigh 1/7 of the car... just be a jackass a buy a motorcycle...)

Just to point out... the new subie's aren't the best.... I've heard this more than a few times...

Yea, I guessed the golf... but I sorta cheated...

I will say that I'm not so sure about that track. It seemed very long and straight as opposed to something like the top gear track with crazy corners, where the all wheel drive might have helped it out...

not slower. still went 0-60 @ 5.9

its just the softer chassis and suspension work on the wrx is worst.

i think its because of the hatchback body or new chassis, im sure Subaru will rework the handling for next year.

but yeah i was surprised that the gti actually quicker around that track.

Volkswagen's U.S. arm on Wednesday said it would offer free scheduled maintenance on its 2009 lineup, starting with its new Tiguan. The move is designed to further differentiate the German automaker from its competitors.

hahahah damn youu;

BMW always had their free maintenance O_o
